If you’ve found yourself here, chances are that you’re looking for newborn photography services in Buffalo! Choosing to book a newborn photographer for your baby is such an exciting decision. It means that you’re a little bit closer to the reality of finally meeting this new life you’ve been anticipating. Choosing someone for your newborn photography needs can also feel like an overwhelming task when there are so many different options.
Today, I’m sharing my top 3 tips for what to look for when booking a newborn photographer for your baby-to-be.
3 Tips for Choosing a Newborn Photographer
1.) Take a look at the photographer’s style
These images will be something you’ll have for the rest of your life. It’s important that you like the style of the photographer that you’re booking with.
There are two main styles when it comes to newborn photography: lifestyle and studio. Lifestyle photographers will typically come to your home and photograph you there. The main benefit to this is that you don’t have to leave your home. However, the downside to this is that your home will need to be deep cleaned before the session. Studio photographers host sessions at their studio. The main benefit to this is that you don’t have to clean or prepare anything. Most studio photographers are also very accommodating toward new moms and will provide a comfortable sitting area, snacks, and beverages. The downside to this is that you will need to leave your home that day.
2.) Check on the photographer’s experience level
Simply put, choosing someone for your newborn photography needs is not a decision that should not be taken lightly. Your photographer will be handling your new baby for most of the session and should have plenty of experience with baby safety and posing. Just like with wedding photography, you will often get what you pay for. Be sure to take into account that the photographer with the proper gear, education, and experience will likely cost more. Keep in mind that it may take a couple of months to save up for high quality portraits.
3.) Make sure that you vibe with your newborn photographer’s personality
Choosing someone that you trust and get along with is one of the many keys to a successful newborn session. The average session can run anywhere from 2-3 hours so enjoying your time with the person you choose is important! Vetting the photographer that you hire can be done through a couple of different ways. Meeting for a consultation, requesting a phone call, or sometimes even just a few emails back and forth can give you a good sense of who you will be working with.
